After our time in Rome, we visited Greece for an entire week. We were very much looking forward to Greek food & a little bit more of a relaxing time. And although our relaxing did not go as planned in Athens- an apartment stay gone awry- we had a great time eating and seeing ancient art. We did a pretty good job of sticking to our budget by walking most of the time, getting some groceries for part of the stay, and carefully choosing which activities we wanted to spend our money on. As usual, we booked rooms with points and miles. Being on a budget means you can’t see everything, which unfortunately means we chose the museum over the Acropolis. However, museums in the summer can be a nice way to escape the heat. Some of our splurges included eating at Ella and taking the ferry to the island of Poros for a couple of nights. Eating at Ella was some of the best food on the trip with an amazing salad, hummus, and a very flavorful chickpea dish. We also spent money on the National Archeological Museum to see some of the most famous pieces from Ancient Greece, including the mask of Agamemnon. As always, we incorporated the free Rick Steves audio guide to the museum.
At the end of our week in Greece, we were starting to feel a little worn out from travel. Our time on Poros was just the relaxation we wanted. Here is some of the time we spent in Athens.
